GodDAMN taxes hurt me this year. I made some money in unemployment, some money as an independant contractor, and some money as a partnership.
All those years I did massage trades for someone to do my stupid 1040EZ. Now I'm doing it myself and I filled out seven tax forms..no shit. A 1040, a schedule C for the business, a schedule E, a 1065, and a schedule K-1 for the partnership, and then a schedule SE for the self-employment tax, and then one more form to beg for payments since I don't happen to have 3 large just laying around.
Man, I hid my head in the sand this year. I knew it was going to hurt, and it did.

Oh and wait till you get married, there are some tax breaks there, plus the $1,000 tax credit for kids is nice too. That still applies for 2004 taxes.

So the fact that you didn't plan ahead for taxes and put aside a percentage in anticipation of paying taxes on your income is Bush's fault?
I did the same thing with my unemployment actually, but I know it's my own damned fault.
BTW, you might want to consider getting a loan from a credit union or something rather than asking for payments - I've heard they pretty much rape you in interest if you don't pay it all up front, and they even mention right in the instructions for the 1040 that it'd be in your favor to get a loan instead of going that route...
That's a shitload of forms though. I think the most I ever had to do was 3 or 4, but I was running a sole proprietership, probably less paperwork than a partnership...

I'm going with S. on this one Dan, if your self-employed or get unemployment you better set taxes aside or your screwed, and have been for as long as I can remember (when my Dad was farming himself out as a freelance engineer, he got raped as well and that was back in '92)

Doh! You sactimonious fuckers! I didn't say whether I had the money or not...and either way it's no so relevent. The fact is I made $9 large in self-employment money and they wanted $1.3k of it ONLY in self employment taxes. I made 20 grand and they want 3 of it. Compared with the fact that 60% of US corporations paid ZERO DOLLARS in taxes from 1996-2000 (source: http://money.cnn.com/2004/04/06/news/economy/taxes_corporate.dj/ ) and a small business like me who's struggling to make ends meet with my personal expenses....it just seems really unbalanced, and an indication that the republican tax-cutting line doesn't really mean me.

Well it DOES suck to have to pay the extra FICA taxes. I'd be all for the feds changing that for self-employed people. Hell, I'd be all for eliminating social security altogether and dumping the tribute they rip from my check every week into my 401(k).
Doesn't change the fact that the percentage that self employed people hasn't fucking changed in a long time, longer than Bush has been in office, so if you want to bitch at government in general for the unfairness of it all I've got your back. If your blaming Bush specifically, you're full of shit (as shown by your point that 60% of corporations paid no taxes 1996-2000, who was in office during those years?).
I'll agree that it's not easy to be self employed at all, tax wise.
Timothy McVeigh would be hailed as a national hero if he would have passed up the Oaklahoma Fed building for the IRS headquarters. Or a DMV....

It's not that I blame GW specifically for the reason I pay his taxes. Christ, I didn't blame him, I just made a sarcastic comment. It's really more the perception that the GOP is all about cutting taxes.
Plus, I have some serious disenfranchisement about how the money is being spent. It just sucks to get stuck for such a huge amount of my meager income, and have it blown with what I percieve to be an intense carelessness.
I just have some resentment that GW tries to market to me, basically. I'm not in his fucking demographic!

Kerry saying he's for the little guy is even more bullshit than GW (which is, I admit, pretty stinking of bullshit). The last democrat that lowered taxes voluntarily was JFK.
